In the new collaboration, Finnish self-driving technology company Sensible 4 will automate the PeopleMover, a customizable vehicle that can carry up to 19 passengers. Trials with the automated PeopleMover will take place in February 2022 in Aachen, Germany.
Stefan Miltenyi, CEO, MOOVE GmbH
MOOVE strongly believes that its automated vehicles are the next step to more sustainable and economical transport of people and goods. The Mover platform concentrates on the safety of the passenger or goods and that of vulnerable road users. Automated and fully autonomous electric commercial vehicles will be the optimum choice in nearly every aspect of energy use, running costs and traffic efficiency.
Sensible 4 autonomous driving software is world-leading in self-driving under demanding weather conditions and enables autonomous driving in weather conditions like rain and snowfall which is crucial in Europe. The self-driving software is specially developed for shuttle busses and last-mile operation, making it a perfect match for the PeopleMover. Sensible 4 autonomous driving software has been tested continuously in Nordic weather conditions for example in Norway and Finland as well as in Switzerland.
Harri Santamala, CEO, Sensible 4.
The two partners' target is to bring the all-weather SAE Level 4 autonomous shuttle bus to the European market in 2023. The self-driving shuttle bus will not require a safety driver on board.
Sensible 4 Oy is a Finnish self-driving technology company based in Finland. The company develops full-stack autonomous driving software that enables vehicles to drive automatically. The unique technology combines software and information from several different sensors, enabling vehicles to operate in all weather conditions, including snowfall and fog. In 2022 it will launch the world’s first commercial all-weather software product, Dawn, for SAE level 4 driverless last-mile shuttles.
The founders of Sensible 4 have been developing autonomous vehicles since the ‘80s. In February 2020, Sensible 4 secured 7 million dollars in series A funding round from Japanese investors and the technology has won multiple awards, including 1st place in the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport 2019 competition and the Finnish Engineering Prize in 2020.
MOOVE GmbH was founded in 2018 on the RWTH Aachen Campus. MOOVE develops sustainable, electric and ultimately driverless commercial vehicles. With the industrialized, purpose designed light commercial vehicle platform, MOOVE strives for an emission-free delivery and passenger service ecosystem by reducing emissions and noise in cities. The company's first vehicles, PeopleMover and CargoMover, will be built in disruptive micro factories, which will focus on sustainability, energy efficiency and minimizing environmental impact by eliminating traditional manufacturing processes, such as pressing and painting.
The Mover platform will be the first industrialized light commercial vehicle platform for highly automated driving (Level 4), partnering with autonomous driving technology software and hardware partners. Its customizable interface can be adapted effortlessly to suit all customer's use-cases that demand specific automatic and autonomous solutions.
